My Version: Thuryah.

New

My Version chats to stars and people of influence to give a glimpse into their time as a teen and see the things they are currently obsessed with!

Say hello to artist, Thuryah, who has just released her new debut EP, poetry i don’t write.

Obsessed RN.

Currently bingeing:

Ugly Betty! I grew up watching bits and pieces of it as a kid and now watching it in full has been so much fun. It’s probably one of my favourite shows of all time and my early 2000s fix 🙏🏽

Song on repeat:

The Man with the Axe by Lorde. I never realised how beautiful it was when it first came out so now it’s what I’m listening to non-stop. There’s something so mystical and beautiful about its melody, especially the bridge!

Favourite Insta account to follow:

I’ve always loved following Bella Hadid. I think she’s one of the few big time celebrities who not only use her platforms to celebrate their work but to talk about important movements around the world which I really admire.

Must have beauty product:

I love Paula's Choice 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant! I put it on after I’ve washed my face and genuinely I really feel like this is what helps keep my skin clear. It’s a miracle worker.

The item of clothing I’m definitely over wearing:

I have these big baggy denim jeans that are super faded and have honestly been worn to death. I think it’s time to say goodbye to the baggy style for me.

Currently reading:

Madison Beer’s Memoir, The Half of It! I’ve always been such a huge fan of her since I was a teenager so reading her memoir has been so eye-opening to me to learn about how she navigated fame and the music industry from such a young age. It’s honestly a really inspiring read.

Snacking on:

I love some Tostitos Lime Corn Chips. My boyfriend always buys them for me and I finish them within the hour.

Can’t stop watching on TikTok:

Honestly, Gilmore Girl edits?? I’ve watched the show maybe 6 times starting from when I was a kid so I definitely have found my dream niche on TikTok.

Dreaming of:

Summer break! Would do anything to just lay on the grass in the sun right now.

Next place on the list to travel to:

Prague! My dad visited a few weeks ago and the photos he sent back genuinely look like they are from Beauty and the Beast. The architecture is truly a fairytale.

I’m currently inspired by:

Hairstyles from the early 2000s romcom era! I’ve caught myself many times trying to replicate them, they’re so fun and classy I just love them.

My favourite way to relax is:

Honestly, just going outside. I spend most the day inside a building so whenever I do go outside for a break I just instantly feel so refreshed and like a person again lol

I stay healthy by:

Gymming and making sure I sleep early enough to get in my 8 hours! I fail constantly but these are my two main things I try stick to 🙈

When I was younger…

One thing I love about Gen-Z is:

I love how unapologetically ourselves we are. We strive to make change and are trying our hardest to live in a world where we are all heard.

If I could give my teenage self one bit of advice, what would it be:

Don’t be too hard on yourself about your looks! You are only a teenager and once these few years pass, I promise you will be even more beautiful as a woman and all those things you were insecure about as a teen will rarely cross your mind as an adult ❤. Just enjoy being a teenage girl there’s truly nothing like it.

My favourite part of being a teenager was:

The amount of time I had to just fangirl about my favourite artists. I used to have a One Direction fan account and some of my best memories were just fangirling over them with my friends!

My first job was:

Coffee Runner!

My dream job as a teen was:

Being a singer…👀

Best piece of advice I ever received as a teen was:

You will never be able to control how others think of you but you can always control your reaction to them.

My biggest fashion faux-pas was:

Wearing all black 24/7! As much as I love a chic black look I really did not wear ANY colour as a teenager and I really wish I found the courage to step out of that phase and not be afraid to try something new.

My biggest inspiration was:

Ariana Grande! 2016 Ari was everything to me and low key still is. I longed for her confidence and ability to just wear and look however she wanted, as a teen that’s very hard to achieve so I always looked up to her for it 🩷
