My Version chats to stars and people of influence to give a glimpse into their time as a teen and see the things they are currently obsessed with!

This New Zealand Music Month, we are celebrating by profiling some amazing wahine in the music industry!

Say hello to Kiwi singer/songwriter, Emma Rutherford!

Obsessed RN.

Kiwi musician/band that I’m loving:

I love supporting Kiwi artists, at the moment I am loving Georgia Lines, Prins and Foley.

I’ll be celebrating New Zealand Music Month (NZMM) by:

Pre-saving all the new music NZ artists are releasing this month, because I know how much it helps.

NZMM is important to me because:

We have such a fantastic variety of hard working musicians in Aotearoa. It takes a lot of work and vulnerability to do what we do, I think that deserves to be celebrated.

My favourite thing about the New Zealand music scene is:

I love the diversity of the NZ music scene. There are countless amazing bands and artists emerging throughout New Zealand, creating a thriving live music scene for our country.

Currently bingeing:

After being obsessed with the recent MAF’s session, I am now re-watching my all time favourite show Gavin and Stacey.

Song on repeat:

Apple Juice - Teddy Swims.

Favourite Insta account to follow:

@Intros.nz - Georgia Lines interviews up and coming NZ artists. I love soaking up advice from the best!

Must have beauty product:

Pink lipstick! At the moment I am wearing Shiseido Fuchsia Fetish. It is with me all day, everyday!

The item of clothing I’m definitely over wearing:

Trench coats!

Currently reading:

The Neuroscience of Self-Love by Alexis Fernandez-Preiksa. I am also obsessed with her podcast!

Snacking on:

You can’t beat a late night Macca’s hot choccy.

Can’t stop watching on TikTok:

Honestly, I love watching cooking videos. They seem to be all over my feed at the moment!

Dreaming of:

Becoming a full-time musician!

Next place on the list to travel to:

I really want to explore America. I would love to do some writing sessions in LA, it is one of my goals!

I’m currently inspired by:

NZ artist Georgia Lines. I enjoyed keeping up with her America tour that she did recently. I am inspired by Kiwi artists that dream big and put in the mahi.

My favourite way to relax is:

Going for a walk and getting a wee sweet treat from a bakery.

I stay healthy by:

Staying hydrated and going for a walk everyday, although I must admit it is a lot harder during the colder months.

When I was younger…

One thing I love about Gen-Z is:

I love how progressive and forward thinking Gen-Z is!

If I could give my teenage self one bit of advice, what would it be:

Stop worrying so much about what people think of you. Trust the process and trust yourself. Keep dreaming big!

My favourite part of being a teenager was:

I loved being involved in productions at school and the luxury of no responsibilities of course!

My first job was:

I was a checkout chick at the local supermarket.

My dream job as a teen was:

I always wanted to be a musician. I am so glad I followed through with my dream!

Best piece of advice I ever received as a teen was:

Discipline equals freedom.

My biggest fashion faux-pas was:

I went through a really bizarre neon yellow phase, for a few weeks I wore bright (and I mean bright) yellow head to toe. I guess I always wanted to stand out!

My biggest inspiration was:

Adele! She is still my biggest inspiration to this day.

My fave Kiwi musician/band when I was a teen was:

Brooke Fraser and Gin Wigmore, I was lucky enough to catch Gin live in 2012. It made my whole year!
