My Version: Grace + Eve Palmer.

New

My Version chats to Kiwi stars and people of influence to give a glimpse into their time as a teen and see the things they are currently obsessed with!

Today we chat to Kiwi superstar sisters and stars of Good Grief, Grace and Eve Palmer.

Obsessed RN.

Currently bingeing:

G: This Is Going To Hurt - I loved the book and didn’t think the series could top it, but wow! So fricken goooood.

E: Same! Also, Severance.

Song on repeat:

G: Beyonce - Break My Soul

E: I’m trying to get my kid into Harry Styles but she keeps coming back to The Wheels on the Bus.

Favourite Insta account to follow:

G: @lizzobeeating - I’m a big Lizzo fan

E: @hicaitlinreilly and @shityoushouldcareabout

Must have beauty product:

G: Sunscreen! I never wore enough sunscreen when I was younger and my skin suffered because of it. The Murad Essentail-C Broad Spectrum Sunscreen is my fav!

E: SPF for me too - it’s that dang hole in the ozone.

The item of clothing I’m definitely over wearing:

G: My Standard Issue cashmere cardigan. I never understood the hype around cashmere… until I tried on some cashmere. Sweet Jesus, it’s comfy, and I’m a big baby when it comes to cold weather.

E: I’m a lot less fashionable than Gracie. For me it’s fluffy slippers - a real perk of working from home.

Currently reading:

G: Conversations With Friends by Sally Rooney.

E: Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo

Snacking on:

G: BISCOFF SPREAD!!! Jars and jars of it.

E: Kombucha and dried mango

Can’t stop watching on TikTok:

G: Anything and everything. My TikTok algorithm is so on point, It knows exactly what I wanna see, but it’s so random. A variety of comedy, pimple popping, cleaning, movie bloopers and vegetarian cooking.

E: I don’t have TikTok but Gracie sends me vids she knows I’ll like. I can see how it would get addictive.

Dreaming of:

G: World peace.

E: What she said!

Next place on the list to travel to:

G: Next month I’m off to Hawaii, LA, NY,  and Tulum, and I’m SO EXCITED.

E: Japan. Once we get our heads around traveling with a toddler - eek!

I’m currently inspired by:

G: My friend Frankie Adams. She’s unbelievably talented and unconditionally supportive.

E: Mana wāhine in politics- women who are out there fighting to make the world a fairer place, people like Marama Davidson, Chloe Swarbrick, Golriz Ghahraman, AOC and of course, Jacinda Ardern.

My favourite way to relax is:

G: By the beach with a good book and some watermelon.

E: Swimming in the ocean.

I stay healthy by:

G: I love to exercise. For me, it has so many physical and mental benefits, so I try to workout everyday. I loving Barre rn.

E: Chatting with my best mates does wonders for my mental health. Everyone deserves friends who love you unconditionally, help you to see the world from a fresh perspective and who make you laugh until your ribs hurt.

When I was younger…

If I could give my teenage self one bit of advice, what would it be:

G: What people think of you is none of your business. It’s exhausting trying to please everybody, so just be the you you wanna be, and fricken own it.

E: Dump the boyfriend! Enjoy being single, travel more, worry less and stop trying to please everyone!

My favourite part of being a teenager was:

G: Experiencing everything for the first time. As you get older, you have less and less ‘firsts’, so be present and soak it all up.

E: Feeling like anything’s possible.

My dream job as a teen was:

G: I think I wanted to be a musician. I always loved singing and songwriting, and would find any opportunity to perform… surprise surprise haha.

E: I wanted to be a professional dancer. The only thing holding me back was my lack of natural ability.

Best piece of advice I ever received as a teen was:

G: To love my body. Not just what it looks like, but what it’s capable of, and where it will take me. Health is wealth.

E: Don’t peak in high school. It can feel like your whole world at the time but life gets so much better.

My biggest fashion faux-pas as a teenager was:

G: I’m not sure I believe in fashion faux-pas. I mean sure, I look back and cringe a little, but no regrets baby.

E: My emo side fringe. It was very Justin Bieber circa 2006 (except he pulled it off.)

My first job was:

G: Sweeping hair at a hair salon. I was then promoted to washing hair, which I enjoyed, cause people were really appreciative of the head massage.

E: Modelling the ‘What Now?’ kids range in the Postie Plus catalogue lol

My biggest inspiration was:

G: Eve. She has always been an incredible big sister. I wish every little girl had someone like Eve to look up to.

E: Aw thanks Gracie! You inspire me every day :-)

One thing I love about Gen Z is:

G: Their courage to be themselves, unapologetically.

E: How inclusive they are.

Good Grief season 2 is available to watch on TVNZ+.

Since inheriting the Loving Tributes funeral home in Season one, Ellie and Gwen Goode have set off on very different paths. Ellie embraces her inner 'girlboss', with all the ill-fitting pantsuits, amateur TV ads, and plumber liaisons that entails. Meanwhile, Gwen spends five months DJing in Bali and reappears unexpectedly in New Zealand to discover their mother has a new boyfriend and she’s been kicked out of the family home. Gwen moves in with Ellie, takes up the job of social marketing for Loving Tributes, and embarks on a childish prank war against their mother's new partner. As family tensions escalate at work and at home, Ellie must decide whether to intervene, or let Gwen grow up all by herself.
