Billie Reviews: ghd Chronos Max Hair Straightener.

Love it or hate it, curly or straight, the way our hair grows is part of who we are. But with the technology these days, it’s always nice to change it up. Naturally my hair is more of a fizzy straight, so often I get the straightener going to straighten it out of that awkward in between.

I have used a few straighteners in my time, but for the last few weeks I have put the new ghd Chronos Max Straightener to the test. As a 21-year-old women who’s constantly on the move - whether it’s work, training or socialising - here’s what I really think.

First and foremost, the speed of this straightener is insane. Reading up on the ghd website, it says the new ghd is designed to be ready to style in 20 seconds. I thought surely that’s a bit of an exaggeration. However, I can confirm 20 seconds for the straightener to heat up is accurate. I even timed it!

When a straightener is ready to go pretty much as soon as I plug it in, it gets a big tick from me. ghd’s updated modern design makes use of ceramic floating plates, which heat up more efficiently and effectively. It’s now obvious to me the new design really does work. The ceramic floating plate design also helps to protect against breakage while providing a frizz-free style.

The wide plates also make it super speedy to style. ghd says the straightener is designed for thicker hair, but I reckon the plates move effortlessly to straighten or style all types of hair. The wide plates offer more coverage, so it really does speed up the styling process.

The next thing on my list that I need to tell you guys about is that the ghd Chronos Max Straightener is just so damn easy to use. I would argue the user-friendly technology also makes it safer.

For a start, it beeps when it’s ready to use so you don’t forget about in the corner of the room. Be assured, if you can’t hear the beeping and do forget about it, the automatic sleep mode will save you, turning the styler off after just 10 minutes of inactivity. The simple power button and the new wishbone hinge makes the straightner so easy to control and get creative with styles.

But it’s also a product of style itself. I got the white and damnnn it’s an aesthetic moment of chaos when I reach for my ghd in the mess of make-up, jewellery and clothes. One of those moments where you almost need to get a quick pic.

Now onto what I would argue prevents most people from the purchase… the price. The ghd Chronos Max sets you back $520, but like all things quality comes price. Although I have to admit, $520 is a lot for a straightener - even a really really good straightener. But considering how much I use it, I could probably revert to girl math.

A few things to consider:

  • Two year warranty

  • 21 day return period

  • Free delivery

So let’s go back to this girl math - you are saving $10 on shipping and if you use it even just two times a week over the two year warranty it works out to be $2.50 per use… then it’s paid off.

So if you are going to commit to the purchase the time is now.

But something you really should commit to if it’s not yet the ghd Chronos Max Hair Straightener is their Bodyguard Heat Protection Spray. I’ve actually never used heat protectant spray but now I don’t think I could live without it. ghd send it through as an extra, but it’s more than a side piece when I comes to my hair cycle.

The bodyguard spray contains a heat protection system that allows me to straighten my hair without the ‘am I damaging my hair’ guilt. My hair is very thin and often with quite severe breakage at the ends, so I seriously do rate ghd’s bodyguard spray.

Priced at $50, if you’re not quite ready to commit to the Chronos Max, you should consider committing to the ghd’s Bodyguard.

In conclusion, if you have the money I think the ghd Chronos Max Straightener is a solid investment. The speed, the efficiency and the user friendly design makes it an investment worth making. Think about the time you will save, the healthy hair and future pics.

But if you don’t have the money just yet - which is totally understandable – I would strongly suggest getting the ghd Bodyguard Heat Protection Spray. Secretly my favourite ghd product to date.

Thank you ghd because I will most definitely be restocking the Bodyguard spray shortly to sit alongside my pearler of a straightener.

Until the next review, Jessie xx
