Topical halloween costumes for last minute lasses.

Spooky season has come around fast this year. If you’re still struggling for a knock-out costume idea for weekend Halloween parties or Monday night trick-or-treating, Billie is here to help.

However, instead of suggesting you pull out the same vampire teeth or witch hat out of the cupboard, we’ve compiled a list of costumes that pay homage to key moments, trends, and people of 2022.

Whether that’s bringing the ‘Midnights’ album to life, or dressing up as 2022’s favourite vegetable, we’ve thought of costumes that celebrate the weird, wonderful and woeful events of the year. Selecting an outfit idea from the bunch below will guarantee you some great conversation starters and a stand-out picture for your socials.

Musical ensembles.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ Album

We’re not sure if Taylor released this album simply so we could channel it for Halloween, but we’re here for it. With some blue eyeshadow, a peach lip and a cute yellow dress you can recreate the album cover (or should we say covers). Alternatively if you’ve watched the ‘Bejeweled’ video on repeat like us, with a leotard and some cheap stick-on jewels you can slay as your own version of a house wench turned princess.

Priscilla Presley

While it was Elvis whose life and music was commemorated this year, thanks to Baz Luhrmann’s biographical film, it is his wife Priscilla Presley that is providing us with all the outfit inspo. Be the babe of Elvis’ era thanks to some winged liner, beehive hair and a shift dress.

Lorde at Glastonbury

Kiwi songstress Lorde definitely got people talking at Glastonbury this year as she debuted bleach blonde hair. Copy her fit this Halloween with some red tights and red ribbons, a lilac leotard, and a flowing blonde wig.

#trending get-ups.

Wordle

After making its way into our morning routines last year, Wordle continues to ignite competition amongst families and friends. Show your love for a wee word challenge by being a walking Wordle for Halloween. Paint some squares onto a white t-shirt and have a word up your sleeve. As you trick-or-treat, or while you wander around a Halloween party, get people to try to guess your word. Carry a yellow and green felt to mark the various answers!

Corn

If you haven’t had ‘IT’S CORN’ stuck in your head for the last month, count yourself lucky! Thanks to a young boy Tariq from South Dakota, corn on the cob has become 2022’s vegetable of choice. For a simple embodiment of the corn trend this Halloween, simply get your hands on a green jumper and glue on some white and yellow ping pong balls in the shape of a ‘V’.

Dude with sign

Potentially the easiest costume on this list, throw together some jeans, a t-shirt, sunglasses and a cardboard sign to be your very own version of the ‘Dude with a sign’. Seth Phillips AKA @dudewithsign has shot to viral Internet fame by roaming the streets of New York to hold up statements that we are all thinking. With this costume, you’ll have the whole neighbourhood talking.

Sporty styles.

Ruby Tui

As the Rugby World Cup continues to provide us with epic matches on home soil, it is only fitting that we honor the ladies on the field in the form of a costume. Black Ferns winger Ruby Tui never fails to make us laugh with her banter on and off the field and is the perfect player to dress up as this weekend. Source a black ferns jersey or any form of black and white sports kit , compliment it with Ruby’s signature red streak in your hair, and even grab a cheeky microphone to represent her iconic post-match interviews.

Serena Williams

The world stood still when tennis legend Serena Williams indicated she was retiring following this year’s US open. Even if she is now flirting with the idea of returning to competition, the announcement was arguably one of the biggest news stories in sport this year. Serena’s style on the court is known to push the stereotypes of tennis attire. Don a tutu with a Nike top, or a denim mini skirt with a bedazzled sports singlet, and don’t forget to accessorise with a sweatband and racket.

Female Cyclist from Tour de France Femmes

2022 saw the first female edition of the Tour de France (about time!). Celebrate this momentous event by cycling into Halloween in a bike helmet and yellow lycra from head to toe.

Tributes to legends that left us.

Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II’s illustrious reign sadly came to an end in September, and the world came together to remember the UK’s longest-serving monarch and ultimate lover of corgis. Pay tribute to the queen of all queens with an outfit consisting of an elegant matching hat and coat set, gloves, a cane, and even a toy corgi.

Olivia Newton-John

We were heartbroken when Olivia Newton-John left us this year. Her radiant smile and angelic voice captured the world over, with parents and children bonding over her hits from the box-office success ‘Grease’. Celebrate Olivia’s starring role as Sandy with some black leather pants, an off-the-shoulder top, curled hair, and red lippy.

Hagrid from Harry Potter

The world recently mourned the passing of Robbie Coltrane, the man behind Hagrid, our favourite half-human/half-giant. Dedicate your halloween dress-up to Robbie’s most loveable character with teased hair, a frizzy beard, a dusty brown coat and belt, and a lantern in hand.

Screen-time attire.

Chris Pine at the ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ press conference

It’s not often that the press conference for a film outshines the film itself, but the oddities of the Don’t Worry Darling media interviews captured everyone’s attention and dominated memes this year. Recreate the hilarious moment when actor Chris Pine zones out at the Venice Film Festival, with a pair of walkman headphones, greasy hair, a blazer over a white shirt, and on-fleek brows.

Anna Delvey

While we wouldn’t recommend being a fraudster or con-artist in real life, step into the shoes (or stilettos) of the subject of Netflix’s ‘Inventing Anna’, Anna ‘Delvey’ Sorokin this halloween. Grab a black v-neck dress, black choker necklace, glasses with thick, black frames, straighten your hair and you’ll be all set to put the trick in trick-or-treat.

Amelia Dimoldenberg from ‘Chicken Shop Date’

Whilst she’s been gracing our computer screens with hilariously awkward convos over fried chicken for a while now, 2022 saw Amelia from Chicken Shop Date host her most entertaining interviews yet. From getting Louis Theroux to rap to making YUNGBLUD laugh out loud, Amelia excels at extracting iconic moments from our fave celebs. Role play your own Chicken Shop Date with a straight blonde wig, dangly earrings, cute top, and a chicken nugget combo from your local dairy.

If you create any of these looks for Halloween, make sure to tag us in your ‘gram! We’d love to see how these costumes come to life!
